20-04-2012 To church for 75 years
Kaare Klint's church chair turns 75.
This year 75 years have passed since the architect Kaare Klint designed his famous church chair, which has since become a Danish furniture classics. The simple, light wooden chair with a paper wicker seat was designed in 1937 to the Bethlehem Church and the Grundtvig Church in Copenhagen, where they still are without ever having been replaced. The church chair has been in continuous production throughout the years and since 2004 it has been made by Bernstorffsminde Furniture on Funen. Here they have optimized production, so the chair can now be sold at half the price and it has again made it attractive, both for consumers and for the contract market where it has recently been sold to the courthouse in Ribe and Tyrstrup Church in Christiansfeld.
